Sammy Fernandes
I'm Sammy Fernandes, a strong advocate of Earth who was born and raised in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil — Porto Velho-Rondônia.
I graduated from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), with a degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in writing and rhetoric. I'm currently doing a master's in Geography and Environmental Studies at CSUN.
I'm an environmental reporter who, previously, worked at The Clarion newspaper, newscast Valley View News, KCSN public radio, and award-winning public affairs show On Point. My research focus is the Amazon Rainforest. As I respond to human-caused climate change at a local and global scale, my goal is to hold legislators accountable for their actions, aiming for governmental sustainable decisions in favor of the biosphere of Earth.
My ultimate goal, however, is to become Brazil's Minister of the Environment to fight against anti-environmental governmental policies, since sustainable action is directly correlated to governmental legislation. I will invest budget on land management activities and science for energy policies on nature conservation, making sustainable decisions for Brazil and the world. Also, by conducting research on social and economic impacts of climate change, I will expand the “Mudamazônia” project (wordplay meaning “Change-and-Seed Amazon”) that I already created, in partnership with the Murilo Braga School, to schools and indigenous communities across all Brazilian states. The project provides environmental science classes, taught by me, to teach native Amazonians that...
